This may be my proudest moment as a Music Video Director up to this point in my career.
I had this convoluted idea for a Music Video while walking around The Dakota about a re-interpretation of the John Lennon Assassination. Whether you know this or not, The Dakota is a very famous building on the Upper West Side of Manhattan at 72nd Central Park West. It is primarily famous for two things :
1. the location where Roman Polanski’s “Rosemary’s Baby” was filmed and ;
2. where John Lennon and Yoko Ono lived (Yoko is still there) and where John Lennon was assassinated by Mark David Chapman.
For me, this video and song has so many meanings.
Please don’t read any further until you have seen the video for yourself in order to not cloud your own valid interpretations – but, for me, some of the themes in this video include, but are not limited to
… forgiving the past, or reinterpreting the past, being okay with exactly who you are and who you are not, living with No in your life, being a go-getter, living powerfully, living inside of great possibility, a whole lot of transformational thinking/living, healing, … etc…
If you listen to the song, the song is about someone who grew up a certain way thinking they know everything but realizing they know nothing. That is like life – the more you learn, the more you realize you don’t know.
What if Mark David Chapman, who by my estimation, had a lot of drive, will, and ambition – it just happened to be grossly misdirected – decided to do something positive with it instead???
I took this crazy-ass idea to the Junk Science crew and not only did they like it, they completely embellished on top of it and the idea took a life of its own and the creative juices were flowing thereafter. At some point a short film version that is a little longer than the video will be published.
Take a look.
THIS VIDEO IS FEATURED ON ABOUT 125 BLOGS (ACCORDING TO VIMEO STATS), BUT HERE ARE THE ONES GETTING THE MOST PLAYVIEWS:
